The flow of packages has increased in recent years due to the high number of online purchases made, in many cases, from one sending country to another receiving country. At InPost we have specialized in the logistics and delivery of shipments to pickup points between several countries.
How to prepare an international package shipment
The shipments of an international package go through a process similar to that of a domestic package, at least in the first phases: preparing the package, labeling, leaving the warehouse or being sent to the drop-off point by an individual, verification and transport. The difference lies in transport: transport between countries may have charges or customs, something we will see in more detail below.
As for receiving the package, at InPost we take care of placing the order in a Punto Pack or Locker. The package from a Punto Pack is collected with a code received via email or SMS and verification of identity with an identification document. The Lockers are unlocked like a locker by entering the code that has previously been sent.
Packages abroad can be processed as a regular order or as a return. In this case, the process changes slightly and must be adjusted to the brand's requirements: place the return label on the outside, include an invoice marking the product being returned, or notify the return via the website or app. On occasion, international packages are lost in returns that have not followed these steps correctly.
Customs regulations
International parcels are subject to certain movement restrictions, partly to guarantee the safety of the goods entering a country. For this reason, the most common practice is to apply special transport fees, customs duties, or retention at airports and border crossings.
The European Union has restrictive customs regulations with countries that send or receive parcels outside the EU, for example, sending or receiving a package from France to China.
The customs regulations of the European Union are much more lenient between its member countries, favoring internal trade within the EU. This means that no transport charges are applied to parcels between countries. In the case of InPost, we only operate in European countries, so the customs issue does not exist.
The United Kingdom poses a dilemma regarding customs fees due to BREXIT, since it is no longer part of the European Union, with all that this implies. At this time of transition, an agreement still has to be reached between both parties.
Delivery times and service rates
Our service rates at InPost depend on various aspects such as the weight of the package, the country it is sent to, the transit time, or the conditions. Customers can select the price they will pay based on the weight of the package; rates range from 1 KG with prices of less than 5€, 2 KG, 3 KG, 5 KG, 7 KG, 10 KG, 15 KG, 20 KG up to 30 KG with prices between 26 and 51€.
Shipping by zones also modifies the final price of the rate. We find zone 1 with shipments to Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, Luxembourg and France, and zone 2 which operates with Austria (the most expensive zone).
Deliveries to InPost pickup points are made within 3 to 6 business days (working days), with the consequent increase in price that a faster shipment implies.
InPost: the most economical option for sending orders abroad
InPost presents itself as one of the most economical international companies for management, logistics and shipment of parcels to pickup points especially if we take into account shipments abroad.
The ease of choosing a rate that fits each customer's needs eliminates additional costs. InPost allows you to adjust the price to the size of the package, its weight, transport conditions and delivery time.
As for transport quality, at InPost we control the final stage of delivery (known as the last mile) and are responsible for minimizing transport costs, creating a transport network by zones and/or streets, guaranteeing optimal delivery conditions for fragile, heavy or temperature-controlled orders, and reducing delivery time as much as possible.
In addition, we offer delivery insurance that can be added to the rate and guarantees that the order will be delivered on time and in the proper manner, useful for urgent orders, avoiding losses, or guaranteeing the delivery conditions required by the package.
