Although when talking about shipments people often think of businesses, there are also many ways to optimize private shipments

Although when talking about shipments people often think of businesses, the truth is that those carried out between private individuals are very numerous and are counted by the thousands every day.

At InPost we have compiled a series of best practices or tips to improve shipments between private individuals.

1. Use a trusted shipping service

When making a shipment, many factors must be taken into account. One of them is choosing a courier company that makes the entire process easier. In the case of InPost, we are pioneers in delivery to pickup points, which will make it easier for you to drop off (and collect) the shipment wherever suits you best and whenever you prefer.

2. Pack the parcel well

Even if nothing fragile is being sent, it is always important to pack all parcels well, to avoid any problems. During transport, the parcel may suffer some mishap, which will amount to nothing if the packaging is sturdy.

3. Label the parcel correctly

When making a shipment, it is essential to enter the full address correctly and stick on the labels. In fact, it is advisable for the person sending the parcel to secure the sticker with the details using tape, so that it does not fall off.

This helps ensure that the parcel does not get lost, because if the label is damaged or misplaced, there is no way to know where it has to go.

4. Use a shipment tracking system

When sending a parcel, the person doing it may be given the choice of whether they want it with or without a tracking number, with the latter option being cheaper.

That is not the most advisable option, as it makes it impossible to track the shipment, so neither the sender nor the recipient will know where it is or when it arrives. At InPost we always provide the tracking number so the shipment can be located at all times.

5. Track the parcel

Following on from the above, being able to track the parcel in real time allows the customer themselves to notice possible errors, contacting the transport company in order to solve the problems.

Thanks to tracking, you can see whether there have been delivery attempts, whether the address is correct, whether the parcel has been damaged, etc.

6. Use a pickup point delivery service

Another option available to private individuals when sending their parcels is to use what at InPost we have called shipments to pickup points, in which Punto Pack | Locker are used for delivery.

This is the service we offer at InPost to all our customers, who go to these points or lockers both to drop off shipments and to collect them, which makes them much more agile by not having to wait for couriers for either pickups or deliveries, thus shortening the parcels' arrival time.
